Primary level in 2021

  1. Emanuel  (Green Angels Academy)

Emanuel resumed class six in January 2021 and later proceeded to class seven in July of the same year. He will be sitting for KCPE at the end of 2022. Emanuel is the only child in the project who is still in primary school. His school still continues to offer remedial lessons in order to redeem the lost time. Emanuel’s performance is above average and is likely to do well in academics. 

His mother operates different businesses for survival. One of them is selling cloth/ materials and she also works in a wines and spirits outlet. 

Secondary school students in 2021

  1. Nicole (Huruma Girls’ High school)

Nicole resumed form one in January 2021 and proceeded to form two in July of the same year. She has remained focused in her studies and is likely to score good grades in KCSE. Nicole is a niece to Emanuel and they are both under the care of the same single mother.

  1. Sprewell (Chianda Boys High school)

Sprewell resumed form one in January 2021 and joined form two in July of the same year. He has been steadfast in his performance and we are hopeful that he’ll get good grades.  Sprewell’s mother Naomi still operate her small businesses which are slowly picking up though many businesses still experience the post-covid effect. His father also tries to find jobs around and occasionally finds some but most of the time he helps his wife in the business. Family income is about kshs.20, 000 per month which they try to spread between education for the rest of the children, food and other family needs.

College students:

  1. June (Maseno University)

June sat for KCSE in March 2021, scored a B plus and joined Maseno university in September same year where he is pursuing a course in actuarial science. He has been steadfast in his studies and finally got his reward of good grades and a good course to pursue. His mother runs her small businesses which include second hand clothes and sometimes dry fish. June’s father also make contributions towards family upkeep through his mechanical jobs. Average family income is kshs.25, 000 per month.

  1. Mitchell (RVIST)

Mitchel sat for KCSE in March/2021 and joined college in September of the same year. She is taking a diploma course in business information technology in the above college. Her mother operates different small businesses to fend for the family and this has enabled their other siblings to attend school. The businesses include cloths and vegetables depending on demand. The average family income is kshs.20, 000 per month.

6. Yvonne (Multi media University)

Yvonne completed year one of her study in mass communication in 2021. She is progressing well and is enthusiastic about joining the media fraternity once she completes her study. 

Her mother runs small businesses mainly fruits and vegetables in spite of the many challenges. This has enabled her to take other children to school and provide other basic needs for the family. Average family income is kshs. 25,000 per month.  

7. Jerry ( Kenyatta University)

Jerry continued pursuing his course in information science at the university in 2021. He has been progressing well in his studies just like his other siblings. Jerry is a role model to many children not just in the nuclear family but in the neighborhood as well. 

His mother still operates a general merchandise business. Most of her products are textile and cutlery mainly for the low-income group. Her business is slowly picking up like many other businesses. Jerry’s father does casual jobs whenever he finds some and this adds to family income

8. Felix (JOOUST)

  Felix resumed his second semester of first year’s study in January 2021. He is another promising student who is likely to excel in his business information technology course and life in general. His study is scheduled to end in Dec/2023. 

His mother runs food business; selling both cooked food and grocery depending on what is in demand in a given season. She constantly diversifies products in order to attract and sustain customers. She earns an average income of kshs.25, 000 per month

9. Kate (Moi University college)

Kate continued taking her diploma course in business management in 2021. She’ll break for internship in July this year and will complete her study in 2023. She looks forward to better things in the coming years. Kate’s mother still operates small businesses among them vegetables and fruits. She alternates products depending on what is in demand since most of the businesses are still struggling. Income from business activities is currently kshs.20, 000 per month.

10. Kelly Otieno (Nairobi University):

Kelly continued taking his diploma course in business management in 2021; a course he’ll be completing in 2022. His performance has been satisfactory and he looks forward to getting good results. He is optimistic about finding gainful employment once he completes his study.

His mother is involved in a wide range of businesses based on what is in demand at different times. The businesses include vegetables second hand clothes, and general merchandize. His father occasionally finds some casual jobs which he does to supplement family income. Average income for family upkeep is hshs.20, 000 per month

11. Brian (Moi University)

Brian Emmanuel continued his study of renewable energy technology management in 2021. He is remarkably steadfast in his studies and likely to excel.

Brian’s mother runs a grocery shop which is a source of family upkeep. Her average income from the businesses is kshs.20, 000 per month. The reduction in income is as a result of the general slow down of the economy. His father is a casual laborer who does odd jobs in the city. Whenever the jobs are not available for him, they all work in the business.

12. Felix (Rift valley technical college)

Felix continued his study in 2021 and will be completing his diploma in business information technology in 2022.  His performance is encouraging and he is positive of getting good grades at the end of his course. He has had positive impact on his siblings who are equally doing well in school.

Felix’s mother sells vegetables and fruits among other businesses for their daily livelihood. She earns an average of kshs.25, 000 per month. 

13. Brian (JKUAT)

Brian continued his study in 2021 and is due to complete in 2023. A degree student in architecture and building sciences-real estate; he’s hopeful of getting good grades and opportunities once he completes his study.  He is a second born in a family of three and has greatly inspired his younger brother and sister who are equally progressing well in school. 

His mother sells second hand clothes and also incorporates new cloths which she buys from wholesale traders in Nairobi. The business is slowly picking up from economic slump experienced last year. His father helps the wife in the business most of the time.  Average income from these businesses is kshs.25, 000 per month.
